Welcome to Berwick Ophthalmology Clinic.
This page provides everything you need to prepare for your appointment.

We see patients aged 16 years and over.
For children under 16, we can provide recommendations to paediatric ophthalmology services.


What to Bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Your referral (if applicable)
  • Medicare card
  • Private health insurance details (if hospital admission or surgery is required)
  • Current glasses or contact lenses
  • A list of your current medications
  • Any previous eye test results (if available)
  • Sunglasses, as your pupils may be dilated during the examination

Before Your Appointment

Please arrive 10 minutes early for check-in.

Dilating Eye Drops

Many appointments require dilating drops to allow a full retinal examination. These drops may cause:

  • Blurred vision
  • Light sensitivity
  • Difficulty reading or driving

Effects last around 2–4 hours, so please plan transport if needed.


What to Expect During the Appointment

Your visit may include:

  • Vision testing
  • Eye pressure measurement
  • Slit-lamp examination
  • Retinal and optic nerve assessment
  • OCT imaging
  • Additional tests depending on your condition

Your ophthalmologist will explain the findings and recommended treatment.


After Your Appointment

You may receive:

  • A summary for your GP or optometrist
  • Instructions for any prescribed drops
  • A follow-up appointment
  • Guidance on symptoms to monitor

If you experience new or worsening eye symptoms, please contact the clinic promptly.


Urgent Symptoms

Seek urgent attention if you experience:

  • Sudden loss of vision
  • New flashes or floaters
  • A shadow/curtain over your vision
  • Significant or increasing eye pain

Fees & Medicare

Our reception team can provide a fee estimate at the time of booking.

Medicare Rebates

Medicare rebates apply with a valid GP or specialist referral.
We can lodge your claim electronically on the day.

Additional Tests

Tests such as OCT, visual fields or imaging may attract additional fees. Your clinician will explain any recommended tests.
